Zach Murray leads Master of the Amateurs

Defending Champion, Zach Murray, has made a near perfect start to the prestigious 2016 Master of the Amateurs tournament at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club’s West Course, an opening round of 66 having the Wodonga golfer one shot ahead of Korea’s Young-Woong Kim, New Zealanders Jason Gulasekharam and Daniel Hillier, American Aaron Wise and Australian David Micheluzzi.

18 year old, Murray, whose only bogey of the round came at the dangerous par three 5th hole, is a former Victorian Amateur Championship winner and comes off the back of several good finishes late in 2015 despite a hand injury for much of the year.

University of Oregon player Wise, is the leading world ranked amateur in the field and after a northern hemisphere summer which has seen him win the Pacific Coast Amateur and finish runner-up in the Western Amateur he might yet be the man to beat this week.

24 players broke par on the opening day of the 72 hole event.
