Zach Johnson Accidentally Hits Ball With Practice Swing

Golf fans will rarely see a more unusual turn of events than what happened to Zach Johnson on the 13th tee during the second round of the US Masters.

After teeing up his ball and preparing for his tee shot on Augusta National's famous dogleg-left par-five, Johnson accidentally struck his ball with his driver (see below).

The extraordinary incident became even more bizarre once the ball had richocheted off the tee marker and come to rest only a couple of metres away, still on the teeing ground.

The 13th tee is the quietest corner of Augusta National's course with no spectator close enough to see Johnson's mishap but it didn't go unnoticed by his playing partners Matt Kuchar and Ian Poulter and millions of fans watching at home.

Luckily for Johnson - who won the Masters in 2007 - his blunder didn't cost him a shot because his ball was not yet 'in play'.

And the strange incident didn't shake Johnson's concentration; he birdied the hole to move to 1 over for the tournament.
