Woods' absence opens door for Scott

Tiger Woods threw out signals that his 2014 season may be in further jeopardy when he withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Championship at Bay Hill Club and Resort on Tuesday (US time)

Woods cited ongoing back issues as the reason for withdrawing from an event he has won on eight previous occasions and he will be frustrated that his already horror start to 2014 has worsened on the eve of an event that could well have given him a kick start to the season and a boost just three weeks out from Augusta National.

Woods' withdrawal leaves the door open for Adam Scott to possibly go past Woods and into the world number one position if he were to win this week.
