Korean based Sydney golfer, Won Joon Lee, has this week won the Korean PGA Tour's PGA Championship following a playoff with Hyungseok Seo for the prestigious title.

Lee, who is a regular on the Japan Tour, struggled to a final round of 1 over par 71 before securing the title in extra time after leading by five shots heading into the final day.

Lee, a former Eisenhower Trophy rep in Australia, has recorded numerous runner-up finishes on the Web.Com, the Australasian and Japan Tours, including when runner-up to Craig Parry at the 2007 Australian Open, but this week’s victory was his first at a professional level.

The 33-year-old has played well in Japan this season recording five top 20 finishes and, while this is his first victory, he has shown signs for several months that a performance of this magnitude was looming.

The tournament carried total prize-money of A$1.3 million.

Lee will advance more than 100 places in the World Ranking as a result of his win and now finds himself in 231st position.
