WA powers on at Interstate Series

Western Australia has stretched its lead at the Women's Interstate Teams Matches being played at Queensland's McLeod Golf Club.

An 8-0 drubbing of the winless Tasmanians has given the West Australians a 1 ½ match lead over nearest rivals Queensland, who were also in blistering form today.

With National Squad member Ashley Ona at the helm, Queensland crushed Victoria 6 matches to 2 while over in the NSW camp, it was all smiles at last for the defending champions.

The girls finally made it into the winners' circle with an impressive 7-1 victory over South Australia. The only blot on the team sheet was Justine Lee's 1 down loss to Ebony Heard in the afternoon singles matchplay.

Western Australia will hope to keep up their winning momentum when they take on Victoria tomorrow while New South Wales battles Queensland and Tasmania meets South Australia.

If the results go to form, the final day is set for an engrossing duel between the predicted top two teams, Western Australia and Queensland. And the Queenslanders would love nothing better than to win the Gladys Hay Memorial Cup on home soil.
