Two Australians will tee it up at this week’s US Girls Amateur Championship at SentryWorld at Steven’s Point in Wisconsin, looking to become just the second Australian to win the title following the success of Minjee Lee in 2012.

18 year old, Grace Kim, from the Avondale Golf Club in Sydney, gets her opportunity courtesy of her ranking inside the top 50 in the world while for Perth’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, from the Gosnells Golf Club, managed to gain her place in the elite field by leading the qualifiers at her venue earlier this month.

Minjee Lee’s win at Lake Merced Golf Club near San Francisco seven years ago was the fore-runner to a successful professional career which has seen her rise as high as world number two earlier this year.

Kim is currently Australia’s highest-ranked female amateur although she was actually beaten by Hinson-Tolchard at the Australian Girls Amateur in Perth last year.

Kim, however, has gone on to record several impressive finishes in the amateur ranks since.

Hinson-Tolchard is yet another product of the prolific Perth coaching guru Ritchie Smith.
