Australian golfers Scott Hend and David Gleeson have finished tied for 6th at the Asian Tour’s Thailand Open at the Thai Country Club near Bangkok, the tournament dominated by Thai golfers with seven of the top ten from that country.

Taiwan based Queenslander and former Australian Amateur Champion, Gleeson, has been a three time winner on the Asian Tour but the last of those came in 2011 and this week’s finish was his best in several years on the Asian Tour.

For Hend it was yet another good week in Thailand where he has won three events of his Asian Tour titles. Hend returned from last week’s Italian Open to play this week and was well enough placed heading into the final day although a round of 71 saw him slip from winning contention.

The winner was local Panuphol Pittayarat who won by one shot over his fellow countryman Poom Saksansin.

For 25 year old Pittayarat it was his second Asian Tour title having won in Indonesia last year.

Jake Higginbottom finished as the next best Australian behind Gleeson and Hend, the NSW golfer tied for 13th.

Australasians Ben Campbell, Andrew Martin, Josh Younger, Maverick Antclif, Adam Blyth, James Marchesani and Daniel Nisbet also made the cut but finished further back.
