Australasians in the field are Brad Kennedy, Steve Conran, David Smail, Brendan Jones, Adam Bland, Steven Leaney, Michael Hendry, Steven Jeffress, Kurt Barnes, Richard Tate, Matthew Guyatt and Scott Strange.
The first event of the Japan Tour season has already been played, that event, the Indonesia PGA Championship, co-sanctioned with the OneAsia Tour, won by Michio Matsumura with Australia's Rhein Gibson finishing runner-up. Gibson does not have Japan Tour status at this stage and is not in this week's field.
Brendan Jones returns to competitive golf for the first time since withdrawing from the ANA Open in Sapporo in September and, soon after, undergoing wrist surgery for a problem which had been bothering him for some time. Jones won this event two years ago.
While well short of being 100%, Jones is returning to tournament golf in order to fully test the wrist under tournament pressure, the 13 time Japan Tour event winner the most successful foreigner in Japan over the last ten years or so.
Stephen Leaney and Adam Bland play the Japan Tour for the first occasion with full status, the opportunity to have a regular tour to play on in addition to the opportunities presented to them by their OneAsia Tour status, sure to provide them with as much competitive golf as they can handle in 2014.
