THERE'S a reason caddies carry the bag and players hit the shots. Exhibit A is this video posted by Jordan Spieth's major sponsor, Under Armour.
During a practice round at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links in preparation for this week's PGA Tour event, Michael Greller, looper for the World Number One, took the opportunity to play a shot at one of the world's most famous golf holes.
The short par-3 7th at Pebble Beach is one of the most recognisable one shotters in the world and to be able to hit a tee shot here is bucket list stuff for most golfers, Greller included.
While a profile of Greller in a US magazine in 2013 suggested he was a scratch golfer it appears he hasn't played much recently.
With Spieth and several others looking on Greller produced the ugliest shot in the game: a shank.
And if that wasn't embarrassing enough, note the reaction of his boss who seems to have no sympathy at all.
Luckily, the former school teacher could see the funny side, taking to Twitter himself later to acknowledge the mis-hit.
What's worse than a shank at Pebble?...February 11, 2016
Picked a beautiful place to shank it at least and better than one the year before on Peter Hay https://t.co/PJpjxMmfkF— Michael Greller (@michael_greller) February 12, 2016
