Steve Allan stages late season rally in Knoxville

Victorian Steve Allan needed a big week this week at the Web.Com Tour’s News Sentinel Open in Knoxville in Tennessee if he was to force his way into the top 100 at worst or even better if he was to make the Web.Com Tour Finals in two week’s time.

Through 36 holes of the event the former Australian Open Chmapion and PGA Tour player is at 8 under par and although six shots from the leader, American Ken Looper, he is just one shot out of second position.

With just this and next week’s Winco Foods Portland Open in Oregon left in the regular Web.Com Tour season, Allan has moved into the top 100 on the projected money list as a result of his good start although he will need to keep things going if he is to finish there and retain at least some status for next season.

If he finishes inside the top 75 by season’s end he can play the Web.Com Tour Finals and potentially regain his PGA Tour card but first things first as he heads into the final 36 holes.

Jamie Arnold 43rd and Robert Allenby 56th were the only other Australians to make the cut.
