Australian Amateur Champion Cameron Smith and West Australian professional Stephen Dartnall lead the way after the opening round of the Australasian version of the International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship at Kingston Heath today.

The pair produced opening rounds of 67 at the high class sandbelt layout and lead by one over New South Wales' Anthony Summers and Stephen Jeffress and South Australian Adam Bland.

Smith last week finished 4th at the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship just a week after winning the Australian Amateur Championship at the Commonwealth Golf Club.

Dartnall himself was a former high class amateur before turning professional and has played well in recent weeks including top ten finishes at the Australian and Victorian PGA Championships.

Summers managed to gain a spot at the US Open via Final Qualifying in Chicago so he is aiming for a unique double.

The leading three players in the 68 man field will see themselves headed for Muirfield near Edinburgh in July for this year's Open Championship.
