Sherratt shares lead at Asian Amateur

Jordan Sherratt has shot a 3-under 69 to share the 36-hole lead at 9-under-par with Chang-Won Han of South Korea in the inaugural Asian Amateur Championship being played at at Mission Hills in Shenzhen on the course to be used for next month's World Cup.

Sherratt, winner of the Barrett Amateur in Canada in June and the Riversdale Cup in March, fired an opening round of 68, three behind opening round leader Ren Han. New Zealander, Peter Spearman-Burn is in third place at 7-under-par after rounds of 69-68.

Sherratt opened his second round with a bogey yet was able to rebound with a birdie at the following hole, before picking up shots at six, eight and 11 and adding consecutive birdies on 13 and 14. A closing bogey by the world number 84 the only other blemish to his round.

Matthew Giles is the next placed Australian in a tie for 10th following rounds of 71-71, to be at 2-under, whilst Daniel Nisbet is at even par with rounds of 72-72 and in a tie for 21st.

Brendan Smith was the other Australian to make the 36 hole cut, which came in at 5-over, and finds himself in a tie for 45th at 4-over-par. Bryden Macpherson will have the weekend off after rounds of 79-73.

The winner of the championship earns a place in the 2010 US Masters, while both the winner and the runner-up will play in International Final Qualifying for The Open Championship next year at St Andrews.
