Scott precariously poised atop ranking

While Adam Scott has every reason to enjoy playing his first event as the world number one at this week's Crowne Plaza Invitational, there are several scenarios that could see him quickly dethroned of his significant milestone.

Whatever happens Scott will stay ahead of Tiger Woods even if he was to earn no points at all this week but Scott, Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar all have the chance to head the rankings at week's end.

Victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial for Current World Number One Adam Scott will guarantee a second week at the top for the Australian.

If Matt Kuchar wins at Colonial he can go to World Number one if Scott finishes outside the Top 3 and Henrik Stenson finishes outside the Top 3 at the BMW PGA Championship.

Henrik Stenson's chances of becoming the first World Number One from Sweden, in addition to the Kuchar win scenario above, depend on his performance at Wentworth relative to Scott's at Colonial.

Stenson needs to finish in a higher position in the BMW PGA than Scott does at Colonial.

Some example indications are listed below.

Henrik Stenson will pass Adam Scott if :-

Stenson win Scott doesn't win
Stenson 4th Scott 5th or worse
Stenson 6th Scott 10th or worse
Stenson 12th Scott 20th or worse
Stenson 15th Scott 30th or worse
Stenson 17th Scott 40th or worse
Stenson 19th Scott 50th or worse
Stenson 29th Scott 53rd or worse (winning zero points)

A special thanks to the good folk at the World Ranking for providing this rundown because quite simply it is a minefield.
