With Jordan Spieth having announced just a few days ago his commitment to return to the scene of his 2014 triumph, the battle between he and Scott is likely to be the feature of the week.
Last year, Spieth was only just emerging as a world class star but since his brilliant six shot victory, then, he has gone on to win four times on the PGA Tour this season, those victories including his win at the Masters and the US Open and he is currently the second highest ranked player in the game.
"The Australian Open is a tournament that I value highly, Sydney is a great city and The Australian Golf Club is an excellent venue for Championship golf. I am really looking forward to competing to win my National Open once again.'' said Scott.
Scott won the Australian in 2009 at the NSW Golf Club and two years ago was pipped at the final hole at Royal Sydney by Rory McIlroy after Scott had bogeyed and McIlroy birdied the 72nd hole.
