ONE of the great benefits of being among the world’s top golfers is the international travel and exposure to foreign cultures that comes with it.
Sometimes, though, those experience can be a little extreme.
Take this Instagram video posted by Spain’s Rafa Cabrera Bello from the week of the CIMB Classic in Malaysia.
The video shows Rafa and our own Adam Scott indulging in a local delicacy, the Sago worm.
Apparently, the worms are best enjoyed while still alive and that’s exactly how our intrepid golfers intend to sample them.
As the pair select their targets from a writhing plate of the small beasts it is clear they are being egged on by a local who is keen to capture the event on film.

Clearly not wanting to back down from a challenge, the duo grab a worm each and on the count of three do the unthinkable, popping the worms into their mouths and chewing.
Cabrera-Bello declares the taste ‘not bad’ and Scott nods in agreement while the delighted onlookers cheer their approval.
With both Scott and Cabrera-Bello to play in Australia in coming weeks perhaps there’ll be a similar stunt with some local witchetty grubs.
Or maybe they’ll stick to a more traditional meat pie.
