New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has followed up an impressive major championship debut at last week's Open Championship with a brilliant opening round of 62 at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in France.

Fox who made the cut on the number at St Andrews last week before a third round 67 and an eventual finish inside the top 50, continued his good recent form on the European Challenge Tour where he has recorded two top tens in his last three starts.

Fox has been able to secure starts in Challenge Tour events on invitation but is already 46th on the money list and if he was able to win this week he would move inside the top ten on the money list and be well on his way to European Tour status for 2016.

"I am obviously pretty happy after that," he said. "I played great all day and got pretty hot on the back nine. I had a couple of nice ones to finish and it was just a good day all round.

"This is my fourth event in Europe, and last week at The Open was a great week. I played great in the last round and I've managed to keep that going here.

"I felt that every part of my game has been really close to firing well. For a while I've put some good scores on the board without shooting a really low one.

"Today I saw everything finally come together. The putter worked and my ball striking was good, so I'm really pleased with my game right now and looking forward to the weekend."

Australian Scott Arnold another to perform well at the Open last week is in 19th position after an opening round of 68.
