Ruffels and Antcliff through at US Am

Australians Maverick Antcliff and Ryan Ruffels have advanced to the second round of the US Amateur Championship after victories in today’s opening round.

Beaudesert’s Antcliffe, who has played on the Georgia Regents Golf Team in recent years, had a narrow 1 up win over Polish golfer Adrain Meronk, the Australian rebounding from an early three hole deficit to win at the last.

Ryan Ruffels, currently ranked number 10 in the world amongst the amateur players, had a very easy won over the credentialed Beau Hossler of California, winning the first two holes and never looking back before taking the match 5&4.

The surprise came from the medallist Brett Coletta of Victoria who was defeated in his opening round by the number 64 qualifier Kyle Mueller despite a late comeback in his match.

Tomorrow Ruffels takes on American Todd Mitchell and almost unbelievably Antcliff talks on another Maverick in Maverick McNealy of California.
