Rhein Gibson shares Web.Com Tour lead

Australians have made an impressive start to the Web.Com Tour’s Lincoln Land Championship Presented by LRS with Rhein Gibson (62) and Jamie Arnold (64) amongst a group of 12 players recording completed rounds of 65 or better on day one at the Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield in Illinois.

Day one was brought to a close due to inclement weather at 4.05pm but, before it was, low scoring was the name of the game with many of those still to complete their rounds also on target for low opening scores.

Gibson shares the lead with Mexico's Carlos Cortiz both players chasing a return to the PGA Tour.

Recent Web.Com Tour winner, current Australian Open champion and now a permanent member of the Web.Com Tour, Cameron Davis, was round in 66 but such was the extent of the scoring that it was only good enough for 16th place at this stage.

Gibson has a reputation for low scoring, this his 4th career round of 62 but after a hot start to the 2018 season with consecutive 3rd place finishes to get the season underway for the former PGA Tour player recent starts have been well below that level.

The 32 year old is currently 25th on the 2018 season money list and is within striking distance of a return to the PGA Tour in 2019 but capitalising on this start will help

118 players are already under par with around a third of the field yet to complete their rounds so by the completion of round one a record number of players might well be under the par of 71.
