Rhein Gibson improves PGA Tour chances

Lismore’s Rhein Gibson is just one shot off the lead at the Web.Com Tour’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Ohio, the 29 year old producing birdies at four of his last five holes in round two to move within one of the leader Martin Flores.

Gibson, who has missed five of his last six cuts on the Web.Com Tour after what had been a good start to the season, is chasing the right to play the PGA Tour for the first time and has improved his projected standing in the Finals standings some 23 places to 31st.

With just next week’s Tour Championship to play it is important that Gibson takes advantage of this great start if he is to be one of the 25 players who earn a PGA Tour card via the Finals.

Steve Alker is in 11th position this week and in 23rd position overall on the Finals standings, Tim Wilkinson is 14th and 27th overall, Steve Allan 21st and 20th overall, Oliver Goss 21st and 38th overall, Greg Chalmers 43rd and now 69th overall with Rod Pampling also 43rd this week but the only Australian player assured of a PGA Tour card at this stage as a result of his Web.Com Tour exploits this year.
