US based NSW's golfer, Rhein Gibson has finished runner-up, albeit seven shots behind the runaway winner, Stephan Jaeger at the Ellie May Classic at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward near San Francisco.

Gibson reeled off a final round of 62 but Jaeger, began the week with a world record equalling 58 and added a final round of 63 himself to win by seven over Gibson with Brandon Hagy and Xander Schauffele another two shots back.

Jaeger won his first Web.Com Tour title in the process of his record equalling week

The TPC Stonebrae has always been a relatively low scoring layout, Tony Finau holding the previous record at 258 but this was another level again.

Gibson, who is playing the PGA Tour this season but who played this week to maintain continuity and perhaps further his cause on the Web.Com Tour, finished runner-up for the second occasion at this level having finished joint runner-up at the LeCom Health Challenge last month.

Gibson moves to 32nd on the Web.Com Tour money list and therefore opens up the opportunity to regain his 2017 PGA Tour playing rights via the Web.Com Tour if unable to do so via the PGA Tour where he has few opportunities remaining.
