The Coca Cola Queensland PGA Championship is played this week at the City Golf Club in Toowoomba, the event the third of the 2013 PGA Tour of Australasia season.

The tournament will be followed next week by the Victorian Open at 13th Beach on the Bellarine Peninsula and a week later New Zealand PGA Championship at the Hills Golf Club in Queenstown.

There will then be a five month break to the next domestic event, the Isuzu Queensland Open in late August at the Brookwater Golf Club near Brisbane.

The City Golf Club and its wide variety of facilities have played host to this event for the past three years now with Steven Bowditch, Gareth Paddison and Andrew Tschudin the previous winners.

This year's field includes recent winners on the PGA Tour of Australasia including PGA Champion Daniel Popovic, the last two New Zealand Open Champions, Brad Kennedy and Jake Higinbottom, New Zealand PGA Champion and runner-up in the 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit Mike Hendry and Australian Amateur and Master of the Amateurs Champions, Cameron Smith and Viraat Bhadwar.

The field represents arguably the strongest yet seen on the now four occasions the event has been held.

Many of those in the field will be targeting not only the PGA Tour of Australasia events over the next few weeks but will see these same events as part of their preparation for the upcoming events on the Asian and One Asia Tours where many of them will play in 2013.

The tournament carries a purse of $115,000.
