26 year old British golfer, Ryan Evans, from the Wellingborough Golf Club in Northhamptonshire has led the qualifying at the Australian Men's Amateur Championship at the Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, the 23rd ranked amateur in the world adding a second round of 67 to lead by one over Japan's Kazuki Higa and Bendigo golfer Lucas Herbert

American David Snyder finished alone in 4th position one ahead of Victorian Geoff Drakeford.

Exactly 64 players qualified for the match play phase with no playoff required after Justin Crowder from South Australia was forced to withdraw.

The leading world ranked player in the field, Lee Chong-woo of Korea missed by one shot despite a much improved second round of 71.

One of those only just making the field for tomorrow was Queenslander, Taylor Macdonald, currently the second highest player in the Australian rankings.

In the Australian Women's Amateur Championship played over the same two courses at the Grange, Korean So-Young Lee was a clear winner, taking medallist honours by four shots over the 2013 Australian Women's Amateur Champion Minjee Lee from WA.

Spain's Luna Sobron another of Australia's top amateurs, Su Hyun Oh, tied for 4th.

As was the case with the men, the women's field finished with the exact number of qualifiers with 32 advancing to the elimination rounds tomorrow.

Play was halted for 75 minutes today when temperatures at the nearby Adelaide Airport rose above 39 degrees but play in the qualifying phase was able to be completed within the allotted two days.
