Gonzales finished as the runner-up earlier in the season in Panama and after a year of the PGA Tour in 2011 he appears to be again finding the level of form that will take him back to the big time next season.
Gonzales recovered from a slow start to his round today when he bogeyed three of his first eight holes before fighting back for a round of 70 in a relatively high scoring event.
Victorian Alistair Presnell, who leads the Australians, is only three from the lead after he too bounced back from a slow start to finish with a round of 68.
Presnell has missed three of his first four cuts this season so this represents a turnaround for the 32 year old and a significant improvement on his missed cut last year.
Aron Price, Tim Wilkinson, Andrew Buckle, Peter Lonard, Steve Alker, Cameron Percy, Ewan Porter, Steve Allan and Andre Stolz all made the cut but they have a lot of work to do if they are to improve their positions substantially over the final 36 holes.
