Peter Senior back to the future in Byron Bay

Australian golfing legend Peter Senior has produced another master class in today’s opening round of the Australian Legends Tour Championship.

Senior who walked away from regular competition at the recent Australian Open after succumbing to injury showed that he is still more than capable of contending and potentially winning events at this level despite his injuries.

A two time champion of the Australian Legends Tour Championship (2012, 2013), Senior fired a five under par 67, to lead by two shots over former Australian Senior PGA champion Darryl Purchase.

The round could have been even better for Senior, after receiving a two-shot penalty for hitting the wrong ball on his second hole of the day, a mistake that he has not made for well over a decade.

“It’s been a number of years since I have made an error like that on the course, with possibly the Canon Challenge in the mid 90’s may have been the last time” said Senior.

“I really enjoy returning to Byron Bay each year, the people are just so welcoming and the course is prepared as well as any course we play on each year.”

“Even with the dilemma on the second hole, I played really nicely all day and holed the putts needed to keep my momentum going. I am looking forward to the weekend and hopefully I will continue to see those putts fall.”

It has been a real treat for the professionals competing this week, with the Byron Bay layout once again presented in pristine condition.

Round 2 tees off tomorrow morning at 6:51am with Senior and defending Australian Legends Tour champion Tod Power teeing off at 9:00am.
