West Australian Josh Greer has extinguished Australia’s hopes of a second US Junior Amateur Championship after going out in the Round of 32 at the Inverness Club in Toledo overnight.

Greer, who was the only one of three Australians to advance to the second round of the knockout phase of the prestigious event, was involved in a close morning match against American George Duagnamee, the pair still tied through 11 holes before Greer dropped shots at four of his next five holes to lose 3&2.

Scottish born, but now a citizen of Australia, Greer is coached by Perth coaching guru, Richie Smith, and although beaten, that he made it as far as he did highlights yet another impressive West Australian golfing product.

Greer's fellow Australians, Karl Vilips and Elvis Smylie, were eliminated in the opening round of match-play yesterday.
