Video: Pablo's bizarre message for his putter

GOLFERS are well-known for being a weird bunch, but Spain's Pablo Larrazabal is doing that reputation no favours with this strange video.

FOR decades players have been made famous for talking to their golf balls as they soar through the air, but now it seems players have started getting chatty with their clubs.

Pablo Larrazabal is a part of this week's Portugal Masters field on the European Tour but after a disappointing opening round score of even-par 71, the Spaniard decided he needed to have some words with some of his equipment.

The 33-year-old took a disappointing 34 putts on Thursday and as a result he posted this video to his Instagram page to put his putter on notice.

"One more chance," says Larrazabal repeateadly as he strokes the head of his flatstick.

"You have one more chance. Tomorrow could be your last day.

"I give you one more chance. Be nice to me," he says, before giving his putter a quick peck.

It may be the last chance for both the putter and Larrazabal himself this week, his opening 71 leaving him one shot outside the cut line as it currently stands.

Scotland's Marc Warren stormed to the outright lead on day one with an 8-under 63, one stroke clear of a handful of chasers at 7-under.

Tour veteran Brett Rumford is the best-placed of the Australians heading into the second round, his opening 4-under 67 taking him to a share of 22nd on the standings.

Fellow West Australian Jason Scrivener is just one shot further back.
