Currently eight Australians and one New Zealander are guaranteed a start at the Open Championship at Carnoustie beginning on July 19th but this weekend further opportunity is provided at events in Paris and in Maryland in the USA.

The Australians currently qualified are Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Lucas Herbert, Matt Jones, Cameron Davis and Brett Rumford who are joined by New Zealander Mike Hendry.

With spots available at this week’s HNA Open de France and the Quicken Loans National just outside of Washington DC however that number could increase by Monday morning Australian time.

At the Quicken Loans event the leading four players finishing inside the top 12 and not otherwise exempt for the Open Championship will earn starts at Carnoustie while at the Open de France three place will be made available from the leading three players not otherwise exempt and finishing inside the top 10 this week.

There are further places up for grabs in the weeks ahead at the Irish and Scottish Opens, the Greenbrier and John Deere Classics and at Final Qualifying at four venues across the UK but this week there are once again tournaments within tournaments to see just who gains one of the coveted starts at the third major of the year.
