Norman Von Nida ten years gone but long remembered

Valentine’s Day is a significant one for many reasons but, 103 years ago, a man was born on February 14th who would play a significant role in the evolution of Australian golf.

Norman Von Nida trail-blazed for so many of Australia’s modern day professionals in that he was one of the very early Australians to venture overseas and in doing so provided the self-belief that an Australian could tackle the international scene and succeed.

In 2003 and four years before his passing in 2007, I had the chance to prepare an audio tribute to Von Nida, encompassing the support of several of the game’s greats and some from outside of golf who benefited from Von Nida’s caring and philanthropic ways.

I scripted, compiled and narrated the piece and although some of the references are in keeping with the situation 13 years ago, when completed, the piece outlines in detail much of Von Nida’s  life and career achievements and the regard in which he was held by so many.
