Norman to play next three Aussie Opens

Greg Norman has confirmed during a media conference held this morning in Sydney that he will play the next three Australian Opens.

The two-time Major winner who has won more than twelve tournaments in Sydney will also act as an ambassador for Sydney promoting Australia's global city as the national foremost business tourist and golf destination.

"This is a wonderful city and has a number of great courses," said Norman.

"You only have to look at some of the courses for their own uniqueness. Take St Michael's Golf Club for example, that's a great layout and there are so many in Sydney that are world class. I'm particularly pleased that Golf Australia have selected the NSW Golf Club as the venue for this year's Australian Open."

Golf Australia Chief Executive, Stephen Pitt, said the return of Norman to the field would be a major draw card for the Australian Open.

"We are naturally delighted Greg will be with us again at NSW and the Championship promises to be a true spectacle," said Pitt.

"I'm also pleased to be able to announce the appointment of TRP Sports with Tony Roosenburg as tournament organisers, working in conjunction with Golf Australia. Having Greg in the field for the next three Opens shows a longer term commitment towards maintaining the event on the world golfing stage."

Sydney is the Australian headquarters of Greg Norman's corporate operations. Norman is Chairman and CEO of Great White Shark Enterprises which incorporates his design business, golf course developments and other business interests.

In a state that has experienced its own share of recent setbacks the Premier of NSW, Nathan Rees, was obviously pleased with one of their main catches for the event of which Events NSW is one of the major financial backers.

"Greg will bring tens of thousands of spectators through the gates of the four days of the Championship," Mr Rees said.

"No Australian sportsman or businessman is held in higher regard internationally than Greg Norman."
