The Asian and Korean Tour’s Caltex Makeyung Open at the Namseoul Country Club in Namseoul outside of Seoul has not been a particularly rewarding one for the Australian contingent, Jake Higginbottom, after only just making the cut on Friday, doing best when he finished a very distant 55th.

Scott Hend, who had missed his last four cuts heading into the week continued his disappointing run when he could only manage 64th and Terry Pilkadaris, after an encouraging start to the week, slipped to finish 66th.

Korea’s Sanghyun Park renewed his love affair with the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship by winning the long-standing event again with a birdie at the third play-off hole on Sunday.

Park, who won the event in 2016, had to go the extra distance to lift his sixth professional title after he carded an even-par-71 in the final round to force his way into a play-off with compatriots Yikeun Chang, Junggon Hwang and India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar. He woiuld then win at the 3rd extra hole.

Bhullar threatened to break the dominance of the Koreans at the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship which has not welcomed a foreign winner since American Mark Calcavecchia emerged victorious in 2004.

The Asian Tour now heads to where as many as 13 Australasians are entered in the AB Bangladesh Open in Dhaka.
