Nitties keeps hopes alive in Portland

The Winco Foods Portland Open is the event which brings the 2014 Web.Com Tour's regular season to an end and it is perhaps fitting that the most dominant player of the year to date, Carlos Ortiz, leads.

The 23 year old Mexcian Ortiz, aleady a two time winner this season, leads by one over American Nicholas Lindheim with another shot back to Mark Hubbard.

Australia's, James Nitties, in desperate need of a big week, is in a share of 4th position four shots from the lead, improving from 98th to a projected 63rd position on the Web.Com Tour money list in the process.

Nitties needs to be inside the top 75 by Sunday night is to have a start in the four Web.Com Tour Finals over the next month or so and keep alive his hopes for a return to the PGA Tour.

Rod Pampling is in a share of 10th place this week and has improved to a projected 32nd on the money list, bearing in mind he needs to be indie the top 25 to be guaranteed one of the 25 PGA Tour cards to come from the regular season and before the finals begin.

Steve Alker is 33rd this week, Mathew Goggin 45th and Adam Crawford 60th.
