Mixed outcomes for Australians in Dominican Republic

Hardly a great finish for Ogilvy but a move in the right direction
This week's alternate event on the PGA Tour, the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic, saw yet another first time PGA Tour winner in Brice Garnett take the title.

The 34-year-old American, who won two events on the Web.Com Tour in 2017, won by four over Keith Mitchell but for the Australians in the field it was a week of mixed results.

Geoff Ogilvy finished as the leading Australian in 22nd place and while it was hardly an earthshattering finish, the improvement he showed following five consecutive missed cuts to start the year was at least a step in the right direction.

Ogilvy was well enough placed inside the top ten heading into today’s final round but two late bogeys and a round of 73 cost him a considerably higher finish.

Matt Jones was 28th, Cameron Percy 58th and Stuart Appleby and Robert Allenby both made the 36 hole cut but failed to make it into the Sunday field.

Perhaps one of the more encouraging performances of the week was that of South Korean K.J. Choi who recorded his best finish on the PGA Tour when he tied for 5th.

The PGA Tour now moves to Houston for this coming week’s Houston Open in Humble.
