Minjee Lee takes a three-shot lead into tomorrow’s final round of the Toto Japan Classic in Japan, the 22-year old West Australian leading over Japan’s Sakura Koiwai with Korean Jiyai Shin and Japan’s Nasa Hataoka tied for 3rd place one shot further back.

Lee, who has been in outstanding form for so much of 2018, added a second round of 64 in the 54 hole event to move from one off the pace to her clear lead and she now has great opportunity to add a second win for the season to her long list of top three placings.

Lee’s final nine of 31 carried her to her convincing lead and given her great consistency she will be hard to run down tomorrow.

Koiwai is a superb player with four runner-up finishes in Japan this season and so if Lee falters at all she could come under threat from the Japanese star.

Shin is a former Australian Women’s Open Champion, 11 times an LPGA Tour title holder, a multiple winner of majors and, importantly for her chances tomorrow, a two-time winner of this event.

She is therefore more than capable of winning this week especially given the success she has experienced in Japan in recent years.

Sarah Jane Smith is the only other Australian in the field and is in 58th place after consecutive rounds of 72 while New Zealander Lydia Ko is even further back after what has been a disappointing week for her.
