The 21-year-old sits alongside brilliant rookie Sung Hyun Park and Korean LPGA player Min Sun Kim.
Lee's fast start was made even more enjoyable for the Western Australian given she is sponsored by the tournament sponsor Hana Bank.
In her three previous starts in the event, Lee has been no better then 25th but she has set herself up for something considerably more exciting over the next few days.
Lee’s eight-birdie round opens to door for her to win her 4th LPGA Tour title but her first of 2017 after four top-three finishes so far this year.
"I've had a pretty solid year," Lee said following her round. "It would be nice to have a win for the remainder the season. That will be my goal."

The leading trio is ahead by one over Marina Alex, Chella Choi, Cristie Kerr, Lizette Salas and Min-ji Park.
Amongst the other Australians, Su Oh is 40th after a round of 72, Katherine Kirk began with a 74 and Sarah Jane Smith is 70th following a round of 75.
