A fast finish has lifted Minjee Lee just one shot from the the lead after the opening round of the LPGA Volvik Championship in Michigan.

Lee carded three birdies in her last four holes to move into a tie for 5th behind the four co-leaders Moriya Jutanugarn, Caroline Masson, Amy Olson and Danielle Kang in what is the final lead-up event to next week’s US Women’s Open.

The Western Australian finished runner-up in this event in 2017 and her opening round of 67 has given her a golden chance to improve upon her 8th place on the current LPGA Tour money list.

Su Oh continued her recent improvement with a round of 69 to be the next best of the Australians in a share of 18th place, as is LPGA Tour rookie Rebecca Artis.

Katherine Kirk and Sarah Jane Smith had rounds of 71 while another LPGA Tour rookie Hannah Green had a slow start to the week with a round of 74.
