Minjee Lee was perhaps a little disappointing in her opening two events of the season in Australia but today she improved sharply with an opening round of 7 under 65 at the Honda LPGA Thailand event at the Siam Country Club in Chonburi in Thailand to be just two off the lead of Korean Eun-Hee Ji.

Lee has played this event well previously having been 8th and 4th in two of her three starts and today, although slow to start, she powered home over the closing 12 holes, a stretch which included an eagle at the par 4 15th when pitching in from 80 yards or so.

Lee is tied for 2nd with American Danielle Kang and Korean Jenny Shin.

Katherine Kirk is another Australian to have started well three birdies in her final 4 holes leaving her at 6 under par 66 and tied for 5th with Jennifer Song, Brooke Henderson and Lizette Salas.

Su Oh had 73 and Sarah Jane Smith 74 to be well back in the field on a day where 44 players broke par.
