Micheluzzi, who had won his quarter-final encounter against American Cameron Sisk at the 20th hole earlier in the day, went behind at the 8th hole against Sugrue and was never able to get back into the match, losing the 10th and 11th to surrender a three-hole lead.
He was conceded the 13th but when he himself was forced to concede the 17th hole the match was all over.
Sugrue will face Scotland’s Euan Walker in the 36-hole final in which the winner will not only earn starts at next month’s Open Championship but the 2020 US Open Championship and Masters as well.
