Mediate claims first Senior major at Senior PGA Championship

Rocco Mediate has held off two of the game’s best players to win his first Senior Major Championship, leading the Senior PGA Championship at Benton Harbor in Michigan from go to whoa to win by three over Colin Montgomerie and by six over Bernhard Langer.

For Mediate it was his third title on the Champions Tour following a career which included six victories on the PGA Tour. It was perhaps his runner-up to Tiger Woods in the last of Woods's 14 major championships in 2008 however that is remembered most in Mediate's career to date.  

Montgomerie was chasing his third straight win in this event while Langer, a prolific winner of Champions Tour titles was chasing his first.

Mediate led the event after his brilliant opening round of 62 and maintained his lead throughout

Peter Senior, finished as the leading Australian in 31st position while senior rookie, Peter O’Malley, playing in his first major championship at this level finished 36th.
