Matt Kuchar has extended his lead at the Sony Open in Honolulu adding a third round of 66 to lead Andrew Putnam by two and the rest of the field by at least four as the event heads into tomorrow’s final round.

Kuchar, who had been winless for nearly four years until his win at the Mayakoba Classic late in 2018 now appears likely to add a 9th PGA Tour title just three months after his 8th.

Keith Mitchell and Chez Reavie are tied for 3rd five shots from the lead and it would appear that those further back would need a little help from Kuchar and something special themselves tomorrow if they are to have any chance of catching the 40 year old.

Marc Leishman continues to lead the Australians but his round of 68 today was essentially treading water on a day where low scoring was the order of the day and he heads into tomorrow in a massive nine way share of 5th place.

Matt Jones improved with his round of 67 to be in 27th place and shares that place with the only other Australian to make the weekend Cameron Smith who dropped 15 places with his round of 69.
