Australian Matt Jones is one of three leaders after day one of the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic, the 38 year old former Australian Open Champion capitalising on a fast start to the day to record an opening round of 66 and share the lead with American Joel Dahmen and Ireland’s Paul Dunne.

Jones birdied three of his first seven holes and three of his last four holes to lead early in the day before Dahmen and Dunne produced afternoon rounds to catch the former Sydney golfer.

Jones has been in solid form in recent weeks having made the cut in eight of his last ten starts on the PGA Tour including two 13th place finishes and against a considerably weaker field than he has been facing recently has an opportunity to record an even better finish this week.

The leading trio finished the day one ahead of one of the stars of last year’s Web.Com Tour, Sungjae Im.

The event is the alternate event on the PGA Tour this week with most of the Tour's leading players in Austin in Texas for the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play.

Aaron Baddeley is another shot back in a share of 5th, Curtis Luck is 43rd after his round of 1 under 71, John Senden is 81st, Cameron Davis is 97th and Robert Allenby 108th.
