TODAY we’ve got a double barreled exercise which is designed to both improve upper body posture while at the same time strengthening the muscles around the shoulder blade.
Because most of us spend a lot of time sitting we tend to end up hunching a lot thorough the upper body.
This makes us stiff through the upper body but also means the muscles of the back start to stretch and get weak.
All of this makes it hard to get into good posture on the course and then maintain it through the swing.
I’ve got a great exercise to help with this and this is especially good if you’re an office worker and spend a lot of time sitting at a desk because it ticks a lot of boxes in improving your body.
For this drill we’ll need a piece of resistance tubing and a chair.
To start, put the band under the right foot and lunge the left foot back. Rest the left arm on the chair for support then pull the band back and rotate around your body.
Keep the arm nice and close and you’ll feel the stretch through the chest and upper body but you’ll also feel the muscles around the shoulder blade working to hold the position.
I like to see my clients hold this position for about 20 seconds to really work all those muscls we’re trying to get to.
This exercises is a really good one for people who spend a lot of time sitting because it reverses all those bad habits we get from doing that.
