Matt Green: Improving posture

GOOD posture is important in every part of life but it's especially so for an activity like golf.

TODAY I want to talk about posture and how to get in good posture for your golf game.

Posture is important in every day life but is also important for any activity you might want to engage in, such as golf.

I like to think of posture as the platform that all movements start from. If you start in good posture it’s easy to move well but if you start in poor posture it’s extremely difficult to move properly.

A lot of people I see, especially those with back pain, have really poor posture in their set up position which makes it very difficult to make a decent swing.

Here’s a simple way I like to show people to help them get the feeling of good posture.

Grab a club and stand up nice and straight. Now put the club behind you running down your spine so its touching your head, the middle of your shoulder blades and the base of your spine.

From this point, soften your knees and bend forward from the hips, keeping the club in contact with those three points.

Once you’ve done that a few times put the club back out in front and take your normal grip.

Now go through that same sequence of movements and you’ll find you’re now in a really nice posture to make a good golf swing.
