Luke Donald favourite at Dunlop Phoenix

The Japan Golf Tour plays the Dunlop Phoenix event in Miyazaki in southern Japan this week and the field is arguably the strongest of the year on the Japan Golf Tour.

Luke Donald is the defending champion following his five shot victory over the then amateur Hideki Matsuyama last year but the field will also include Keegan Bradley, Billy Horschel and the latest Japanese sensation Matsuyama.

Matsuyama leads the Japan Tour money list by a big margin and despite his form tapering off in recent weeks he could still be factor.

With only one more full field event to play after this week, several Australasians have work to do if they are to retain their playing privileges. It will be of no concern for Brad Kennedy who is currently 7th on the 2013 money list with $A450,000 but for the likes of Kurt Barnes he has a task ahead of him if he is to finish inside the top 70 and retain his playing privileges.

Barnes is currently 62nd on the money list and may well be safe but a cut made this week would be very handy.

Kennedy, Barnes, Steve Conran and David Smail tee it up this week.
