This year's field will once again be one of the strongest to ever compete at a Pro-Am, with the likes of former USPGA Tour winner Andre Stolz, 2012 Australian PGA champion Daniel Popovic and current Fiji International champion Steven Jeffress all teeing it up in today's opening round.
Jeffress will again be one of the local favourites teeing it up this week, with the Gold Coast based professional praising Chrysler Jeep for what they have brought to golf over the past three years. "Chrysler Jeep has certainly given the domestic professionals an opportunity to further their careers over the past few years, not only with the Jeep Pro-Am, but with the five Tournament Jeep Series a couple of years ago, along with various other tournaments around Australia," said Jeffress.
"A win here this week will not only assist a professional with their expenses of domestic and international travel, but will also assist them with their confidence and belief that they can win against a high quality field. This is an experience that professionals can not practise for."
Although the defending champion Ryan Fox will not be in this year's field, a climatic finish to the Queensland Sunshine Tour Order of Merit is sure to be played out, with as many as 29 professionals this week having a mathematical chance of claiming the 2013/14 Order of Merit Title.
Current Order of Merit leader Brett Rankin is playing down his chances though, with the 28 year-old Queenslander heading into the week with a bone spur in his right hand. "There is no doubt the Order of Merit title is in the back of my mind, but for me, this week is about testing the extent of my hand injury over the course of a four round tournament," remarked Rankin.
"I am heading off to the third stage of Japan Qualifying School in four weeks time and therefore it is a race against the clock to have my hand 100 percent. This week will no doubt change the career for the winner and hopefully with my lowered expectations I can give it a shot."
The Jeep Pro-Am which won the 2013/14 PGA of Australia QLD Division Tournament of the Year Award will tee off today at 12:00pm.
