LPGA Tour joins PGA Tour in Mexico

The LPGA’s season is all but over with just this week’s 30 player Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico City and the season ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples in Florida remaining.

Both the LPGA Tour and the PGA Tour play events in Mexico this week with the PGA Tour staging the Mayakoba Classic near Cancun.

Last year Christina Kim won her first tournament in more than nine years on the LPGA Tour but her recent form suggests a repeat is not on the cards.

Without Lydia Ko in the field, Inbee Park’s chances of continuing her good record in this event are improved. Park has been 3rd, 4th and runner-up in her last three starts in this event.

So Yeon Ryu is another with a good record at this tournament having been 4th, 3rd and 6th in her last three appearances. Surprisingly, Ryu has not won an LPGA event this year but there have been plenty of near misses including when runner-up in her last start in Taiwan.

Lexi Thompson won the event two years ago and is in fine form at present having won in Korea and finished 6th in Japan last week.

Minjee Lee, the only Australian in the field, plays the event for the first occasion but has an opportunity to continue what has been an outstanding rookie season.
