Lexi Thompson again leads in Alabama

17 year old Lexi Thompson, chasing the defence of her title at the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Alabama, leads by one shot after the completion of 36 holes at the Senator Course at Capitol Hill.

Thompson is playing the LPGA Tour as a member in 2012 under a special age exemption granted as a result of her win in this event last year.

Thompson won this event by five shots last year and after her opening round of 63 yesterday it appeared she might be on her way to another emphatic victory.

Her round of 69 today however allowed Korean Mi Jung Hur and American Mindy Kim to move closer, their rounds of 65 moving them into a share of second position.

Having missed three of her last four cuts it is again an example of a player being stimulated by returning to a golf course where happy memories prevail.

"My putting has gotten a lot better," said Lexi referring to her form reversal. "It is all about confidence really just getting up to it and telling yourself your are going to me the putt. I have changed my stance a little but not much. It has been a case of just getting a line and committing to it."

World number one Yani Tseng is in 41st position at 3 under and nine shots from Thompson while the number three ranked player, Stacy Lewis, is in 10th position and just four from the lead.

Sarah Jane Smith is the best of the Australians in 21st position while former winner Katherine Hull also made the cut in 49th position. Smith is currently 75h on the LPGA Tour money list and with the leading 80 at season's end gaining full eligilbility for 2013 this is yet another important week for the Queenslander.
