Langer wins again, Senior 6th at US Open

Bernhard Langer dispelled the concerns of back to back scheduling of major championships on the Champions Tour when he not only played in both but won the Senior British Open and the US Senior Open within seven days.

Not only was Langer the lone player to shoot four sub par rounds, he was the only player to record more than two rounds under par. The German ran out the winner by three over Fred Couples with John Cooke and Olin Browne sharing third position. They were the only players to finish the 72 holes under par at the demanding Sahalee Golf Club near Seattle.

Langer and Couples shared the lead at 5 under heading into the final round and although Couples was first to make a statement with a birdie at the first hole. He would soon strike disaster at the second hole when he found the water with his third at par five and recorded a triple bogey.

With birdies at his second and third holes, Langer had moved three clear and when he added another at the 6th the task became just too great for Couples and others.

Couples closed the gap with two late birdies but by then it was all but over with Langer winning his fourth event of the season and moving ahead of Couples on the 2010 money list with earnings of US$1,710,000.

Peter Senior added to his already fine rookie season with a share of 6th, securing US$81,000 in the process although remaining in 13th position on the money list.

66 year old Graham Marsh did well to make the cut and finished 63rd.
