Korda brilliant but Lee remains in hunt in Thailand

An eagle at her final hole of round two at the Honda LPGA Thailand event in Chonburi has put the icing on the cake of a stunning second round of 62 for American Jessica Korda, establishing a four-shot lead over Brittany Lincicome for the 24-year-old.

Korda’s final nine of 29 has opened the door for a 5th LPGA Tour title, the last of the previous four coming more than two years ago.

Korda’s round was by three shots the round of the day and follows some brilliant form she was putting together late in 2017, this being her first start of the 2018 season.

Korda finished third in this event two years ago after she had shared the lead through 36 holes on that occasion before a third round 75 and a final round 65 but she is clearly in some of her best form right now and although surrounded by some of the game’s best she has a great opportunity this weekend.

Lincicome’s round of 65 was her the second best of the day and leaves her one ahead of Minjee Lee with Lexi Thompson another shot behind while Michelle Wie, Moriya Jutanugarn and Brooke Henderson tied for 5th although seven shots from the lead.

The field struggled to keep pace with Korda's brilliance but Lee remains very much in the hunt following her round of 67 and tomorrow gets to play in the final group with Korda and Lincicome.

Katherine Kirk is 46th, Sarah Jane Smith 47th, and Su Oh 55th.
