Australians Minjee Lee and Katherine Kirk might have made reasonable starts at this week’s NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers, but such is the heat of the scoring over the Pinnacle Country Club that they find themselves in 32nd place.

Rounds of 3 under 68 were recorded by Lee and Smith in what was the opening round of the 54 hole event but they find themselves six shots behind the leader, Inbee Park, ahead of tomorrow’s second round.

NSW’s golfer, Sarah Kemp, opened with a round of 1 under 70, while Robyn Choi was round in 73.

Lee has played this event well previously with four top tens in four starts but she has work to do if she is to keep that record intact, especially given the event is staged over only 54 holes.

The leader Inbee Park, a winner of this event 6 years ago, raced to the turn in 29 before finishing with a nine-under par 62 to lead by one over Paula Creamer, Thailand’s Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong and Spain’s Carlota Ciganda.
