New South Wales golfer, Kevin Yuan, added a second consecutive round of 69 to lead the qualifying for the Australian Men’s Amateur Championship at the Yarra Yarra and Peninsula Kingswood Golf Clubs south of Melbourne, Yuan ahead by one over West Australia’s US Junior Champion, Min Woo Lee with New Zealand’s Ryan Chisnall and New South Welshman Kieren Jones on shot further back.

A former semi finalist in this very event in 2015 and the first round leader in last year's qualifying, Yuan from the Australian Golf Club, is a brother of now Ladies European Tour professional Celina Yuan

In hot and breezy conditions good scoring proved quite a task and only six players were under par over the 36 holes at the two courses.

Scott Gregory of England, the highest world ranked player in the field finish in a share of 12th position while Australia’s leading ranked player Harrison Endycott made it through to the match play in 38th place.

The best round on day two came from Italian Frederico Zucchetti who recorded a two under par 68 at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club to move from outside the top 64 after his opening round 75 at the easier Peninsula Kingswood Golf Club to a share of 12th

Twenty players were required to play off for the final 18 places for the match play field of 64.

In the Women’s Australian Amateur held over the same two courses it was again a case of the Korean women dominating with six of the leading ten qualifiers all from that country.

The medallist amongst the women was Choi Hye Jin, a member of the Espirito Santo winning team for the Koreans last September in Mexico and the highest ranked player in the women’s field this week.

She leads by two over Eun Jeong Seong who is the current US Junior Girls and US Women’s Amateur Champion.

The leading Australian is Karis Davidson in 8th position while Eunice Kim is 10th.

The leading 32 players make it through to the Women’s Amateur Match Play phase.
